On August 6 and 7, I headed home to Tdot to be with my family and of course to take in the Taste of the Danforth. Its a great street festival celebrating Greek Town and all that it has to offer. Taste of the Danforth is a yearly festival held in Toronto, in the Greektown area along Danforth Avenue for a period of three days in August, spawned from the Taste of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Started in 1994, it celebrates Greek food and culture every second weekend in August.
This street Festival is one of my favourites to attend - and I sort of don't have a choice - my parents have a store on the Danforth but I look forward to the mayhem each and every year! Not to mention all the great treats and eats - I just looked at these :)
There was some Greek Yogurt available to try....
Fresh Corn on the Cob
Roasted Yams, Watermelon the size of your face...I kid you not....
But this is what I look forward to...the big Carrot....Its this amazing natural food market with organic treats, eats, and goodies. I walked out with two grocery bags full :)
Have you attended a street festival this summer?
This looks like such a good time!! I would love to see a watermelon that huge. Mr. A just cut one up today, and that sucka was big enough!

I missed this one this year!! So sad...i love me some spanakopita!
ReplyDeleteI went to the Taste of Little Italy though. The crowds are too much for me. Honestly, the wait to get food was unreal. Me and the BF just ended up going to Fresh after weaving through people for about an hour! Inthink that because i can get Italian food whenever from my g-ma, i don't really care to wait in line! Greek food on the other hand...i don't always get a chance!! So so good! Looks like you had an amazing time :)
Hey, if you are going to be in Toronto next weekend, check out the WBFF competition. My trainer along with several of my friends will be up there competing!!
ReplyDeleteYour parents have a store on the Danforth?!? You must tell me so I can check it out! Admittedly I don't make it out to that end of Toronto - but we do have friends that live in the area so every once in a while we'll catch dinner down there :) Looks like you had a great time! Those desserts looked so yummy!
ReplyDeleteGosh..All this is making me hungry! Lovely pics!

Which store do your parents own? That's amazing! I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see you, but do let me know when you're next in town, and I'll let you know when I'm in Ottawa!!
ReplyDeleteSounds and look like you had a fantastic time :)

That Greek yogurt I would have definitely visited that stall :)
I know! I was a bit dissapointed with the Macros though...I have to say The liberte brand (or Chobani is the best in terms of calories etc)
ReplyDeleteDo you have a brand you recommend for greek yogurt?
My parents own a Perfume Store called Perfume Boutique right at 602 Danforth (its beside the starbucks!)
ReplyDeleteIf you ever need anything at a good price tell them nini sent you! :)
We will have to meet up for sure!

And I agree withy ou I just go to help my parents but its still wonderful when its sunny…this year it rained a lot!
Im working this Saturday! I wish I knew earlier I would have made an effort to book time off to go : (
ReplyDeleteWould love to know who they are! Are you planning on doing one here in Canada? Would love to come and see you!
Well then I am inviting myself over for some Italian!
ReplyDeleteOr you will have to share some recipes with me. :) Personally I find the food not to be as great during festival time because they make such huge batches…it just doesn’t taste the same. I would have picked Fresh too :P
Looks like a gorgeous day + a really fun occasion! The food looks so yummy and you look very summery!
